Camino de Santiago Day 3: Zubiri to Puente la Reina (June 2023)

I’m trying to figure out the best way to keep track of our upcoming journey, so I want to see what a blog post from my website will look like. I’m not in love with the way Instagram messes with the aspect ratios of my photos. So here goes.

Zubiri to Pamplona is a great hike. I spent most of the day visiting with a couple of Italians that I met on the way. There is also something magical about the way the Camino takes you from these tiny towns in the mountains into bigger cities like Pamplona.

In Pamplona, I spent the night with my friend Gorka and his family, but he couldn’t pick me up to take me to his place until later in the day. So I had lots of time to explore the Pamplona Cathedral.

I loved it.

A lot of people are down on the Pamplona Cathedral because of the way that neoclassical facade breaks with the beautiful gothic interior. I tried to keep an open mind and just appreciate each piece on its own. I loved the statues inside the church, and the cloister is an absolute gem. One of the best preserved I’ve ever seen.

I also did the pilgrim’s tour of the San Saturnino church, after which I got a photo with all of the pilgrims that were there .

Of course, the highlight of the day was visiting with Gorka and his family. They are just the best!
